Sandy Eustace and Hesa Naughty Boy Win Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 (2)
The National Reining Breeders Classic is the largest added-money reining in the world, and riders from all over the country make the trek to Katy, Texas, to compete. Sandy Eustace, of Alvaredo, Texas, made the journey, and although she didn’t make it back to the Classic Finals, she still left the Great Southwest Equestrian Center with a Championship.
Riding her 4-year-old Hesa Naughty Boy, Eustace was rewarded with a 143.5 in the National Reining Horse Association Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 (2) ancillary, collecting $267. “He was very tired from being here for ten days, but he still had enough energy to get through. He was a good ‘Naughty’ boy,” she explained.
Eustace purchased Naughty in February of his 3-year-old year, and showed the Hesa Smart Chic gelding at the NRHA Futurity where they made the finals. The pair competed only two other times before coming to Katy. “We haven’t shown much together, but I really like him. I like that he’s a sweetheart. He’s a lover and he can take the training because he wants to learn, but I like him most of all because of his attitude,” she said.
Eustace gave much credit to Ruben Vandorp and Nathan Piper, “They’ve helped me get here and they worked really hard to make sure I did well. I really appreciate them and thank them for everything,” she said.
Reserve honors went to Jordan Donnelly on Chics Got A Gun and Bernie Paetzel and Chex Out Whiz. Both contestants marked a 140.5 and took home $184. Paetzel and Chex Out Whiz were also the Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 High-Point Champions, and took home a beautiful Gist buckle.
The National Reining Breeders Classic, celebrating its tenth anniversary at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just thirteen years, the NRBC has grown to include upwards of 230 subscribed stallions and in 2009, there were over 2,800 enrolled foals. Annually, the payout at the National Reining Breeders Classic exceeds $1.3 million. For information on the NRBC, visit the web site at www.nrbc.com or call 580-759-3939.
